We are currently recruiting PhD/Masters students to study plant ecology and evolution in the context of global change. Topics of interest include biological invasions, phenological responses to climate change, biogeography, and large-scale biodiversity informatics. Postdoctoral opportunities are also available.
Research interests span plant systematics, biogeography, genetics, community ecology, and macroecology, anchored in understanding how biodiversity came to be and may change in the future through fieldwork, experiments, and data science.
Studies how plants respond to climate change through changes in phenology (timing of leaf out, flowering, fruiting, senescence) using herbarium specimens, crowdsourcing platforms, and artificial intelligence.
Investigates Darwin's dueling hypotheses on biological invasions using molecular phylogenetic frameworks and functional trait analyses to understand factors contributing to invasion success across taxa and geographic scales.
Uses the sunflower family (Asteraceae) as a model system to understand rapid diversification and spread of plant groups, with focus on thistles (Cardueae) using molecular systematics and phylogenetic comparative methods.
Quantifies multiple dimensions of plant diversity across climate, geography, and human disturbance gradients to understand how biodiversity dimensions interact and affect ecosystem productivity under global change.
Focuses on biodiversity conservation in Madagascar, a critical hotspot where 82% of vascular plants are endemic, addressing invasive species impacts and sustainable conservation measures balancing ecological and human needs.
